Why it exists
I write songs at the piano. I play them and record them…and then they stay recordings forever, because writing them down takes far too long.
I trained classically and have my ARCT in Piano Performance (Royal Conservatory of Music) and spent years as a first violinist in the Niagara Youth Orchestra.
I know what good sheet music looks like. I just never had the patience to handwrite mine.
So I built the thing I always wished existed. Happy playing!

How do I turn a piano recording into sheet music?
Drop an MP3, WAV or M4A into the box at the top. In a minute or two Key Kapture writes out both hands with every chord named, ready to download as a PDF or MusicXML.
Can I edit the score in MuseScore or Sibelius?
Yes. Export the MusicXML and open it in MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale or Dorico.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. It is transcribed on your device, in your browser.
What works best?
Piano recordings work best. Other instruments are worth a try too, though voices, drums or a full band can add extra notes you may need to tidy up.
Can I change the key or time signature?
Yes, after transcribing. The score updates right away.
Will it stay free?
It is free while in beta. Leave your email under Pricing to hear first if that changes. Anything you have already exported stays yours.
